HTC takes to the 10.1” tablet arena with the Jetstream

So HTC have decided to move to the bigger 10.1” platform with its new Jetstream tablet. But the question must be asked: “can it take out the mighty iPad?”

At first glances it certainly ticks all the right boxes: dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU to run all those android games and apps without a flinch, 32 GB storage, 1GB memory 8 Megapixel primary camera with a secondary for video conferencing, 10.1” 800×1280 pixel LCD screen (giving you around 149 pixels per inch) great for watching those videos.

A few extra offerings that almost no one else has on their “proper” tablets are an SD card slot which can take up to a 32 GB card, and (my personal favourite that I think has been missing for the tablet market), an HDMI port.

So on paper, the Jetstream seems to stream ahead of the competition, bar, well none that I can think of – even Apples iPad! And being made by HTC we should be able to assume that the build quality is going to be as good as anything else you will get. The only downside is that Android has just release 4.0 and this device is still running 3.1, but I am sure there will be an update from HTC in the not too distant future.

The one thing left to be seem is how this device, as nice as it may seem, will fare in the real world an on the market. Will someone also try to get them banned from many of countries as has happened with much of the Samsung range? Based on history, the iPad seems to have everyone in a tizz and has claimed a massive segment of the market – the benefit of starting a trend. We will have to see what users feel about the final decision maker: iOS versus Android is really what it all comes down to!
