Speak to any Mac user or Linux user and they will quickly be able to write you a list of reasons why you shouldn’t use Windows. At the top of the list will always be the fact that there are more viruses than found in other OS’s.
Although what they say may hold some water, there is no way that we can deny what a great job Microsoft has done with some of their operating systems. Yes we will certainly all agree that Vista was a complete waste of time, a resource hungry, slow way to run a PC; and that is only mentioning one of the failures that MS have had over the years. But there are at least two saving graces up to this point, the first of which was a business standard in most companies for many years; yes I am talking about XP. Simple, fast and effective; just what you want from an OS.
The other version of windows which is has been a bit more of a success than many thought that it would was Vista’s younger brother – Windows 7. With more than 400 million copies being sold in less than two years, it is the fastest selling OS of all time. When the beta version of 7 was released I remember running it (the ultimate version) on an old HP laptop with a 1.6GHz CPU and 512mb of RAM, a fair feat to say the least.
Now when talking about highest sales, there is one thing that we have to keep in mind, Linux is Open source and therefore it isn’t really compared in the highest selling OS of all time.
I think that Microsoft has achieved something here and even if you don’t like them you can’t deny this fact. So a small round of applause to something of a necessary evil to some and a life saver to others.
Well done Microsoft Windows, let’s just hope Windows 8 doesn’t land like Vista.

I definitely agree. I used previous incarnations of Windows because I had to, but I upgraded to Windows 7 because I was actually excited about it, and I still haven’t been disappointed.
I have also been happy with windows 7, and since I am running the 64-Bit version, it gives me a little more boost.
I must say that I am also looking farward to W8, want to see what they offer have – read a few interesting things!
