Google Realtime Search Now Available

It has long been said that if you want to get the latest, most current news on any topic, Twitter is the place to go.

Don’t bother waiting for news on natural disasters that have just taken place to come out on the news TV channels, don’t wait for it in tomorrow morning’s paper. Just hop onto Twitter & you’ll find it there. These days, news hits social media sites faster than any journalist can write or speak.

Since last year, Google has been giving real-time results of the latest Tweets, in it’s search engine results. Just yesterday, the company launched Google Real Time Search, an experimental search engine which provides only real-time results.

The results given are pulled from social media sources such as Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz. The results comprise of postings that users have made on these sites. Google Realtime can be used separately from Google’s main search engine & is constantly being updated, as is the nature of real-time.

Users can now find the latest breaking news, on any topic, just by conducting a search on Google Realtime. Companies will now find it easier to monitor the feedback given with respect to their latest promotions, products roll-outs, and manage their online reputation. Politicians can monitor the climate within their nations with regards to new laws & regulations. Actors can keep up with the latest gossip that is normally spewed about themselves all over social media networks.

You could search the same query at different times of the day, and get different results.

Google is not the first search engine to incorporate real-time results, but as always, they are the first to do it with such panache.

This to my mind, just highlights how important social media has become. With heavyweights like Google, Bing & Yahoo all incorporating real-time social media postings into their search results, social media is not something to be sneered at anymore.
